Let’s talk about subscriptions. If you are anything like us at SalonIQ, we all have a subscription for things we would never dream of having just a few years ago. Yes, even toilet roll…

The big question to ask ourselves, is why? Why do we now see subscriptions as the way forward for many of our regular purchases?

Here are just a few reasons;

  • Convenience due to our busy schedules
  • Spreading the cost is more manageable.
  • One less thing to think about and remember
  • Reducing the cost, quite often added value is received when subscribing to a product or service

Increasing Guest Retention through subscriptions

Retaining clients can be challenging, as a Salon owner you rely on more than just a good haircut from your team. It’s about the client experience and their journey with you from making their appointment online or by phone, being welcomed in the salon, enjoying the service, and then ending with the goodbye.

Subscriptions improve your client retention, creates commitment and loyalty from your clients and ensures they choose you each time they need their hair cut and not another salon in your town.

Guest Spend – it’s all in the mind…

Yes, you read that correctly, it really is all in the mind, let’s look at an example now.

Paying a subscription fee, for example, £50 per month enables your client to have unlimited blow-dries (maximum 2 per week) plus they get 10% off all retail purchases on the day. The £50 they pay sits on their account for them to use against any service or retail product 7 days a week.

By paying the £50 by direct debit each month, I have forgotten about that payment and feel like I am getting £50 off my whole bill when I pay for my hair or beauty treatment.

I am then highly likely to purchase the shampoo and conditioner you have been recommending to me for so long or push the boat out and say YES to a conditioning spa treatment for an extra £20.

This mentality works the same for deposits too.

How to run subscriptions in your salon

There are many ways to run subscriptions in your salon, the most common, is offering 2-3 levels of subscription, each one at a set price. Depending on the level of subscription you choose will depend on the promotion or upsell you offer your clients.

  1. Subscribe to a Colour Club for £50 per month and receive 10% off all retail and 25% off all colour services Monday – Thursday. Available with limited team members.
  2. Subscribe to our Blow – Bar for £35 per month and receive 10% off all retail and 6 blowdries per month.
