Technology for salons has had to change just as fast as the trendiest styles, and our founders have been there every snip of the way.

Serial salon owners Andy and David built one of the very first pieces of salon software back in 1993, when dinosaurs were just escaping Jurassic Park and Mrs Doubtfire was putting face masks on the map.

Together, these two lovely techies built Computill, the simple on-site system that allowed salon owners to schedule bookings and keep on top of stock.

It was a glint of something more exciting on the horizon, and as times changed and technology moved forward, the salon software adapted and morphed into iSalon, which still exists today.

Not long after, Andy and David took a step back from writing software and concentrated on the salons themselves instead. That’s when things got really interesting… Perhaps their story will sound a little like yours.

Decades in the making

By the time they sold iSalon in 2006, Andy and David had six salons of their own to manage. That’s when they really discovered that making a salon a success takes more than scheduling bookings, keeping on top of stock and taking payments

There are the appointment reminders, the client nurture, the retention and the referrals.

Then there’s the marketing to new salon customers, reducing the no-shows, and trying to make money selling products at the same time.

And that’s before you even spare a thought for your staff – how on earth could you keep on top of all those tasks and motivate your team to perform at their very best at the same time?!

Just like you, Andy and David needed something that wouldn’t just keep the salon running, it had to really make it glow. First-hand, these gents realised they’d missed a trick with the old systems they’d built. Back to the drawing board.

Never stand still

Andy and David never stood still.

They knew times were changing and the world wanted to do more online, and they quickly realised their old systems weren’t keeping up with the increasing needs of their own salons, as well as everyone else’s.

Now, salons needed software that could create revenue streams in a world where competition was increasing and costs were going up. It had to be intuitive, simple to use and easy to manipulate. It needed to do all the things time-shy salon owners ought to be doing, before they even thought of doing it.

And that’s why they’ve spent the last two decades building a dedicated team to step away from the old legacy salon software and create the cloud-based, all singing, all dancing SalonIQ.

These days, the software doesn’t just allow you to get the fundamental basics of running your salon done. It does all those hundreds of intricate extras in between too, leading to higher revenues and a fantastic return on your investment, time after time.

So it’s not just Andy and David anymore. There are 27 of us here at SalonIQ now, supporting more than 2000 salons and 180+ salon groups across the UK, including some of the industry’s biggest names.

Now that our founders have taken a well-earned step back, our senior team continue to drive our progress. MD Sam Kendall is at the heart of each decision we make and every step forward. She’s the engine beneath this beautiful bonnet, keeping on top of what our salon owners need, and making sure they get it.

Meanwhile our CEO Yogi Parmar brings more than 30 years of industry knowledge and a heck of a lot of energy to the party. He listens to our clients and uses that feedback to enhance our technology and our offering every day.

The rest of the team are spread across the country and all come from hairdressing and software backgrounds too. In other words, with SalonIQ, you’ve got the UK’s biggest bunch of salon specialists in your corner, with 250 collective years of salon experience between us.

And we’re still just as busy creating innovative services to help salon owners achieve success as Andy and David were back in ’93. Being salon people, we like to bring all the fun of the salon floor to our work too!
